The scales of this big fish are black in colour and darken with age. The colouring of older fish is virtually black. They're easily identified by the small finlets that protrude from their dorsal fins, which resemble those of some tuna species. Adults can grow to be 6 feet long or more, however, most are about 5 feet long. The heaviest ones weigh over 100 pounds.
